Dr. Scott Shulman was born and raised in North Bay, Ontario. He did his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at McMaster University. He completed his Medical Degree in 1999 at the University of Western Ontario. Scott went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at Michigan State University and Western University respectively. He also completed a fellowship in IBD and Therapeutic Endoscopy at Western.

Community Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Brantford General Hospital

Dr. Suraj Sharma is a community Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Brantford General Hospital, 30 minutes west of Hamilton. I did my medical school, residency, GI fellowship and Hepatology fellowship in Toronto and then did a Masters of Public Health and Nutrition fellowship in Chicago. I returned to Toronto as a clinical associate for a year before taking a community position. I have experienced both academic as well as community practice, and would love to help residents with their questions regarding training and job searches

Dr. Zane Gallinger, MD, MSc., FRCPC

Mount Sinai Hospital

Dr. Zane Gallinger is an Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. He completed his gastroenterology residency at the University of Toronto and an advanced IBD fellowship in New York City at Mount Sinai Hospital through the Icahn School of Medicine. He also completed his Master’s of Science in Health Education at McMaster University. He has authored over 20 peer reviewed articles and has presented at many international conferences. His research interests include investigating delay in diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease, with the hope of determining factors which contribute to IBD morbidity. Recently, he has developed a curriculum for advanced IBD fellowships in both the United States and Canada. He is passionate about teaching trainees. He was recently appointed as the educational site director at Mount Sinai Hospital, with responsibility for the learning experience of all GIM and GI residents and fellows that rotate at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Dr. Iain Murray lived a boring life until one day he became President of the Ontario Association of Gastroenterology (OAG) and his life became meaningful for three years.  Actually five years as he was also Chair of the OMA Section on Gastroenterology.  Now he lives a mundane existence working at his endoscopy clinic in Markham, occasionally giving advise on the Board of Directors, or to younger peers.

Dr. Jawaid is a graduate of Schulich Medical School in 2015. She went on to complete Internal Medicine residency and GI fellowship at the University of Toronto. She works as a community gastroenterologist at Woodstock General Hospital with an interest in hepatology including conducting Fibroscans. Her research has focused on gender dynamics, specifically Women in GI. She is the current GIWomenCan! Trainee Member of the Board (2024) under CAG. She lives in London, ON with her husband and two young children.
